Stone sculpting process

The stages involved in developing a form out of stone

Rough marble, a salvaged architectural stone block approsx. 22' long.
Sandbags provide a support to hold the stone and absorb blows from the mallet
to prevent fracturing the stone

The clay scale model.
The final sculpure often changes direction
as it develops
